A Vision for Connectivity
Lyte Fiber, a Texas-based broadband company founded in 2023, is dedicated to bringing reliable, high-speed internet to underserved communities. Their leadership team is headed by Carter Old, a seasoned expert in the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) industry, along with a senior management team boasting over 100 years of combined experience in fiber and telecommunications. They have recently announced a significant investment of over $15 million in Baytown, TX, where they will initially serve 15,000 homes and businesses.
Lyte Fiber is proud of their commitment to serving communities that have lacked reliable internet options and have been historically overlooked in telecommunications expansion efforts. As they grow, they’re building a network with the Gulf Coast’s unique challenges in mind, ensuring resilience against unpredictable weather.
Their mission is to deliver dependable connectivity to foster growth and opportunity in the places that need it most, which includes offering initiatives like complimentary Wi-Fi access points at community venues. Furthermore, Lyte Fiber actively seeks public-private partnerships to address local needs and goals. These collaborations enable them to provide primary or backup connectivity services for critical sectors, including first responders, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities.
The Challenge: Managing a Complex Fiber Network
As Lyte Fiber rapidly expands its network, it faces the challenge of managing a complex fiber infrastructure. This includes tracking multiple routes, branches, and connection points, ensuring accurate capacity planning, and efficiently responding to outages. To address this complexity, they required a comprehensive solution to track paths and manage OSP capacity and utilization.
Additionally, they sought software capable of managing updates and changes during the construction phase (redline). It was also essential to have a reliable source of truth for serviceable address locations. They needed a tool to assist their NOC/Operations teams in identifying outage locations.
To address these challenges, Lyte Fiber sought a comprehensive fiber management solution.
The Solution: VETRO
VETRO emerged as the ideal solution for Lyte Fiber, offering a suite of tools to streamline network design, construction, and operations.
”VETRO seamlessly bridged the gap between GIS and CAD, ensuring the accuracy of producing permit documents without high costs and a longer project timeline. Compared to other solutions, VETRO offered the most comprehensive out-of-the-box integration with various Tech Stack solutions, including Construction & Project Management, OSS/BSS, and data visualization,” says Aamer Abbasi, Network Operator at Lyte Fiber.
VETRO also offered operational-focused tools, such as splicing management and accurate locations based on OTDR output distance.
Lyte Fiber saw these key benefits of VETRO:
-
Network Visualization: VETRO provides a clear and intuitive visual representation of the fiber network, enabling efficient planning and troubleshooting.
-
Capacity Planning: By accurately tracking fiber utilization, VETRO helps Lyte Fiber optimize network resources and identify expansion opportunities.
-
Accurate Serviceable Locations: VETRO ensures precise identification of addressable locations, facilitating efficient service provisioning.
-
As-Built Data Management: VETRO streamlines the process of capturing and managing as-built data, improving network documentation and maintenance.
-
Outage Management: By leveraging OTDR data, VETRO helps pinpoint the exact location of fiber cuts, accelerating outage resolution.
Immediate Benefits and Future Goals
Lyte Fiber has already experienced significant benefits from implementing VETRO, including:
-
Increased Productivity: Streamlined workflows and improved data accuracy have led to increased employee productivity.
-
Enhanced Decision-Making: Vetro provides the necessary insights to make informed decisions about network expansion and optimization.
-
Improved Customer Experience: Faster outage resolution and efficient service provisioning contribute to a positive customer experience.
"VETRO has been a game-changer for our network operations. The intuitive interface and powerful features have significantly improved our efficiency and accuracy. We can now quickly identify and troubleshoot issues, reducing downtime and improving overall network performance."

Looking ahead, Lyte Fiber plans to further leverage VETRO to support its long-term growth objectives. In the next 2-4 months, VETRO will be a crucial component of supporting a fast-paced construction plan. However, the scope will be limited to Address Data and Network Paths. In the medium term, Lyte FIber will be interested in evaluating VETRO to perform High-Level Design, integrating VETRO with construction project management, utilizing external map functionality in VETRO.
By partnering with VETRO, Lyte Fiber is well-positioned to deliver reliable, high-speed internet to communities across Texas and beyond.
