Pioneer Broadband is bringing rural broadband to Northern and Downeast Maine communities using VETRO FiberMap for planning, design, provisioning, and inventory efficiencies.
Portland, ME: VETRO FiberMap, a leading provider of solutions for fiber network mapping and broadband infrastructure, and Pioneer Broadband, a ‘pioneer’ in Northern Maine internet delivery, today announced that Pioneer has successfully completed several rural broadband FTTH network build projects using the VETRO FiberMap platform as a core technology. Highlights include FTTH projects completed in Houlton and Sherman as well as network design for Downeast Broadband Utility covering Calais and Baileyville.
Pioneer is representative of the many emerging small and mid-sized Internet Service Providers (ISPs) taking an aggressive do-it-yourself, get-it-done approach to building out fiber networks in rural communities across the U.S. The Houlton build was 100% coverage and completely privately financed. The result is a pure fiber network giving residents access to world class broadband at affordable pricing, all the way at the Northern end of I-95. These fiber-served Northern Maine communities now have better Internet access than most places in the country, and an infrastructure to support advances for years to come. Planning and design for this network was performed in VETRO FiberMap™ software, enabling detailed data driven decision making.
“We used to do all of our mapping in an ad hoc manner using GPS, Google Earth, and assorted digital and analog mapping tools. Heading into fiber to the home builds in many communities and scaling up our fiber assets required us to move into a managed database system for the network map.” Said Tim McAfee, CEO of Pioneer Broadband. “That much we knew. We also knew we were not interested in any of the overpriced, overcomplicated legacy offerings from the traditional CAD and GIS vendors. When VETRO FiberMap came on the scene, we saw something that we immediately knew was a fit for us. This mapping solution is going to make a lot of small ISPs very happy.”
“The VETRO FiberMap™ network GIS platform gives Pioneer a true home for their network map, which is business critical data for any ISP. Full network circuit, strand, and splice documentation now resides in the platform, giving Pioneer an intelligent network map for qualification, provisioning, splicing, maintenance, customer service, and more.” said Will Mitchell, CEO of VETRO FiberMap™. “We continue to listen carefully to the business needs of Pioneer and our other ISP customers and will not stop developing and innovating for them. It is exciting to see that work being done by these fiber builders is improving internet infrastructure in communities in Maine and across the country, and gratifying to deliver the fiber mapping software that helps them succeed.”
