Once VETRO heard about the important work Interfiber is doing in the underserved area of the Democratic Republic of the Congo – we knew we wanted to include them in our Customer Spotlight series.
Read below as we sit down with Mohamad Ibrahim, CEO of Interfiber, for Five Questions with our Fiber Family!
Five Questions with Interfiber
1. How did you got into the business of fiber internet?
Interfiber has been an internet service provider for the last 15 years. Initially, we dealt in all wireless, however, once fiber became affordable and there was a possibility to apply for the license/authorization to lay our fiber, we started migrating. It was one step closer to making the internet connection more affordable in Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and making it faster and more accessible for our customers.
2. So, what’s going on with Interfiber — any news, milestones, achievements – what’s coming up next?
We built a fiber network under the Congo River that connects Kinshasa and Brazzaville, and we are building ACIX (acix.net), the biggest central African Internet eXchange. ACIX will hopefully connect several bordering countries to D.R. Congo. Our plan is to make the internet more affordable and to have a higher penetration. We are passionate in our dedication to connect schools and academic institutions for free. We strongly believe that internet for educational purposes should be accessible to everyone.
3. What plans/projects did you have in motion when you started shopping for fiber management software?
We received our fiber to the premise license and had all our fiber optic equipment landing into the Congo in March of 2021. We knew fiber to the premise was our future and we wanted to start documenting correctly from the start and hit the ground running with the best fiber management system we could find. We searched and compared VETRO to other fiber management platforms and decided that VETRO made it simpler and easier for us to view our entire fiber ring.
4. Why did you choose VETRO?
After comparing a few different products we found VETRO to be the simplest solution. We like the ease of use, and most importantly it is the only true cloud-based platform. That was important to us.

5. What is your favorite feature of VETRO FiberMap
We really like how the whole platform is very intuitive but our absolute favorite part is the
splicing diagram, we would be lost without it.
